Annual NGA/TES survey: full report of the findings

13 October 2017 (by Simon James (clerk))

Tuesday 3 October, 2017

The National Governance Association released a report of the main findings from the 2017 annual NGA/TES survey. The 5,338 governors, trustees and academy committee members who responded to the survey had some stark messages for government: • less than 20% of respondents said that they would be able to manage funding restrictions without adversely affecting the educational attainment of students in their school • governors and trustees are once again calling on the government to provide stability for the education system and ensure that the expertise of education professionals is valued and listened to • 95% of respondents believe that those governing should receive mandatory training • there is a significant amount of work to do on improving the diversity of school governing boards – only 4% of respondents gave their ethnicity as non-white and just 10% were under 40
