Our Community

At the heart of the community

The School is a vital and integral part of the local community. Our pupils take an active role in village life, are involved in community activities and benefit from close contact with other community groups, including All Saints Church and Benger Bears Pre-School (which is sited next door to the School).

In addition, we work alongside the other village schools in our local cluster on joint activities such as writing moderation or sporting events.

“The promotion of community cohesion extends to the inclusion of the church and other organisations in the community – there is an exciting sense of inclusion.” SIAMS July 2014.

Over the year we hold a number of parent workshops, information sessions and parent forums in order for parents and visitors to become more informed about the learning we do in school.

Upcoming Events

FOSBS wanted to wish you all a very warm welcome back, we are as excited as the children to be back and wanted to update you on our latest news!

PROJECT GAZEBOS

We are really pleased to announce that following the successful fund-raising so far this academic year we are now able to build 2 gazebos!!! One for the edge of the playing field and one at the back of the Year 1 classroom. The gazebos will allow pupils to further develop their learning whilst enjoying the health benefits of being outdoors, and both gazebos will provide much needed shelter from the elements for all children during playtime.

Excitingly we have agreed with the school that this is going to be a volunteer build, this is great because it keeps costs lower meaning all funds raised can stretch even further to benefit the school! The build will be overseen by Morse Renovations, a local builder whose owners are also parents of children in the school. We already have some of our lovely FOSBS team signed up to help out and would be grateful of all additional help (a few hours is all that's needed) on 3rd April or 14-16th April. If you would like to get involved please contact us at fosbs.sbenger@dbat.org.uk and we will put together a timetable so we can socially distance and make the most of any volunteer effort. We would also welcome any contributions of materials if you happen to have excess at home - we will need a water butt, black roof guttering, ballast and in date cement.

How much have we raised this academic year?

You have all raised an amazing £1,751 so far this year, we think this is fantastic given the impact of covid-19 on our usual fund-raising activities. As usual, our biggest fundraiser was the Christmas raffle which showcased some great prizes again this year. So, we just wanted to say THANK YOU again for your amazing support in both prizes and raffle tickets.

So, what's next after the gazebos?

In the recent survey that we sent out you reminded us that it's always better to know what you are fund-raising for!

We have agreed with Mr Maddison that all Easter term fund-raising will be going towards developing the outdoor pond area and peace garden, in particular with a focus on how it can be used to support the children’s learning around our environment and sustainability. We are also considering ways to fund other extra-curricular activities following the feedback on the parent’s survey.

In addition, one of our big targets every year is to organise a special summer treat for all of the children to enjoy towards the end of the summer term. We feel that this is especially important after the year the children have had, by helping them to celebrate their strength and resilience.

We are considering running some Easter holiday competitions, more on this to follow....

Just a reminder that FOSBS are always looking for more support so if you can spare any time don’t hesitate to contact us on the email above or our Facebook page.

Many thanks and we look forward to seeing you soon.

FOSBS are The Friends of Sutton Benger School and we are all members– every parent or guardian is a member of FOSBS, no matter the class your child (ren) are in, your job, whether you are a Mum or a Dad or where you live. Everybody is automatically a member of FOSBS.

WHAT IS FOSBS?

FOSBS is a PTA! Primarily we are the fundraising arm of the school. We raise money to help enrich the lives of our children while at primary school and to enhance their education, by providing equipment or activities, which are not covered by the usual funding methods. We have also helped to fund part the newest building that the school now proudly uses as its library, technology room and new office space.

WHO RUNS ALL THIS?

We do, as parents.  We run all the activities that FOSBS organises, from the discos and mufti days for the children, through to the larger school fetes and Christmas fairs. We have a core committee with a chair, a treasurer, a secretary and general committee members to comply with the laws regarding charities, but anyone can join the committee at any time throughout the year.

HOW CAN YOU HELP?

We would love you to join us. We help raise funds for the school by carrying out different events throughout the year; an outline of these is in this leaflet. Our focus is on fundraising for enrichment opportunities for the children.
