Welcome to our school

Our vision 'Together we learn, grow and flourish' is at the heart of all we do - we know how important it is for both you and your child to feel settled and happy about starting school in order to be ready to explore all that life at Sutton Benger can offer you.

Below is information about our 'Starting School' process and the lovely things we do to help you settle and become part of our school community. If you have any further questions please do not hesitate to contact us.

Welcome Meeting

We would like to invite you to join us for a 'Welcome Meeting' on Tuesday 2nd June 4-5pm in Willow classroom. It is a great opportunity for you to find out about our school, the EYFS curriculum and all the important information about  your child starting school. You will also get a chance to meet your child's teachers and each other. We look forward to seeing you then! 

Welcome visits - stay and play

As part of our induction into school, there were 3 stay and play sessions in June / July. These sessions really help our children to find out about school and to become more comfortable with the classroom and their teachers. Links to sign up for these sessions were sent in your welcome letter.

Session 1 - Tuesday 30th June:

  • You will choose 1 slot – 9.30-10.30 or 10.45-11.45
  • Stay and play session for your child and 1 adult

Session 2 - Thursday 2nd July:

  • You will choose 1 slot – 9.30-10.30 or 10.45-11.45
  • Stay and play session / welly walk
  • Please drop off and collect your child from the main reception
  • If your child goes to Benger Bears on this day, they will bring them and collect them

Session 3 - Wednesday 8th July – whole school ‘Move Up Day’:

  • 9.30-11.45
  • Stay and play session / Teddy Bears picnic
  • Please drop off and collect your child from the main reception

We also run a coffee and cake morning from 9.30 to 10.15 in Session 3 which is run by 'Friends of Sutton Benger School' (FOSBS). Parents and carers are invited to stay and enjoy coffee and cake together, get to know each other and to ask any questions you may have.

1 to 1 visits

We have also offered you a 15-minute slot to come and visit us in school on your own with your child. This will be another lovely opportunity for us to get to know you and your child. These will be on the afternoons of session 1 and session 2. A link to sign up for this 1 to 1 slot was sent in your welcome letter.

September

We have a staggered start to the start of the school year which allows the chidlren to 'find their feet' and settle into the new school routines at a steady pace.

In September the times of the first days of school will be:

  • Thursday 3rd and Friday 4th September - 8.50 – 11.30
  • Monday 7th and Tuesday 8th September – 8.50 – 1.15 (to include lunchtime)
  • From Wednesday 9th September the children will be in school fulltime - 8.50 – 3.20. There is an opportunity to discuss this if school or home feel that your child should continue part time.

Nursery, preschool and childminder visits

At Sutton Benger School we know the importance of a smooth transition for your child. As part of this, we will visit all nurseries, preschools and childminders that your child attends. This enables us to meet with your child in a familiar setting as well as chat to the people who know them so well. The children really enjoy our visits!
